Off-grid voice & chat for the slope
Getting started
- Open SnowTalkie and tap through the intro.
- On the Join screen, type a channel — any short word or number like family-ski, 1234, or pizza — and your name. Tap Join channel.
- Everyone who types the same channel name finds each other automatically. No account, no setup.
Talking
- Push-to-talk: press and hold the mic button, talk, release.
- Continuous (open mic): turn on Hands-free (VOX) in Settings to keep your mic open the whole run.
- Text: type anytime in the composer — works great with gloves.
- Radar: tap the crosshair to see who's nearby and which direction they are.
- SOS: hold the SOS button to broadcast an emergency alert with your last known location.
- Leave a channel: open Settings → Exit channel.
Apple Watch
SnowTalkie installs on your paired Apple Watch automatically. Talk from your wrist without pulling out your phone.
Range & connection tips
- Keep devices roughly within line of sight. Bluetooth reaches ~10–30 m; Wi-Fi peer-to-peer ~50–150 m line-of-sight.
- Other phones in between relay along, extending your group's coverage.
- The radar shows who's still in range — if someone drops off, move closer or let a teammate in the middle bridge you.
- Make sure Bluetooth is on and you've allowed the app's permissions (Microphone, Bluetooth, Local Network, Location).
